G/T Advisory Council

I. BACKGROUND

The formation of the Anne Arundel County Public Schools Gifted and Talented Advisory Council was proposed in Spring 1998 by the Coordinator of Gifted/Talented/Advanced Programs and approved by the Superintendent of Schools, the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction, and the Director of Curriculum. The Council became fully operational with its first meeting in October 1998. 

II. PURPOSES

The G/T Council is an advisory body whose major function is to serve as the formal organization for promoting a respectful and effective partnership between the Gifted/Talented/Advanced Programs Office and county educators, students, and community members. The major purposes of the G/T Council include: to provide guidance to the staff of the Gifted/Talented/Advanced Programs Office relative to the implementation of county gifted and talented programs, grades K-12 to participate in planning for the continued improvement of G/T programs to provide ongoing assessment of the direction of G/T programs to explore with staff ways to identify and utilize community resources to enrich and to expand opportunities for advanced students, grades K-12 to offer creative and viable solutions to problems and challenges impacting G/T programs to communicate G/T programs information, direction, success and needs to a variety of audiences, including educational and governmental policy-makers. 
 

III. MEMBERSHIP

The G/T Council consists of a maximum of 21 appointed members who: possess special interest in and/or experience with the education of gifted and talented students reflect the regional, cultural, and socio-economic diversity characterizing Anne Arundel County and Anne Arundel County Public Schools are employees of Anne Arundel County Public Schools and/or residents of Anne Arundel County 

IV. MEETINGS

The G/T Council will meet three times a year from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on the second Wednesday of October, January, and May.
