Task

Your task will be to use the Web to investigate April Morning for historical accuracy.  By researching topics such as "Weapons," "People," "Places, "and "Events," you will find out if the facts the author uses are correct or incorrect or unknown.  You will also look at documents written by people who were actually involved in the battles at Lexington and Concord to see if the novel's character's points of view seem reasonable.  Then, you will decide for yourself if April Morning is valuable or dangerous for students. The final step will be for your team to write a letter to the editor stating your opinion and supporting it with evidence from your research.

You will be reading other books (and seeing films) based on history, so what you learn about checking the accuracy or inaccuracy of stories based on history (historical fiction) will be important to you.  Also, you will learn much more about the American Revolution, about research sources on the Web, and persuasive writing.
