Grade Two Social Studies Program

In Grade 2 Social Studies, students are introduced to people and places from around the world. They investigate life in communities from long ago, and learn how people use transportation, communication and technology to solve problems. Students are introduced to the skills of Social Studies: sequencing events, identifying cause and effect, identifying perspectives, and reading and constructing timelines, maps, charts and graphs. Students read materials at their instructional level, and listen to children's literature to learn about concepts of Social Studies in Grade 2. They complete short writing assignments. The units studied are:

  • I Can See How Communities Connect
  • I Can Be a Hero
  • I Can Plan a Parade
