Grade One Social Studies Program


In Grade 1 Social Studies, students learn about their role in different communities in the United States. They learn about rights and responsibilities of being a citizen. Students are introduced to the skills of Social Studies: sequencing events, identifying cause and effect, identifying perspective, and reading and constructing maps, graphs and charts. Students read books at their instructional level, and listen to children's literature to learn about concepts of Social Studies in Grade 1. The units studied are:

  • I Am a Citizen in My School
  • I am a Citizen in My Family
  • I am a Citizen in My Community
  • I am a Citizen in the United States.
