18th Annual Maryland High School Dance Showcase

Anne Arundel County Public Schools fared well at the Maryland High School Dance Showcase January 5th at Goucher College.  9 out of the 16 schools selected to perform by adjudicators were from AACPS.  On Showcase Day, adjudicators Rhodie Jorgenson (Maryland Youth Ballet), Adrienne Clancey (ClancyWorks), and Dianna Cuatto (Ballet Theatre of Maryland) chose 24 dancers for All-State, and 7 additional dancers for Honorable Mention All-State.  Dancers are selected for All-State based on technique, performance qualities, positive attitude in class and toward fellow dancers, professionalism throughout the day, and work ethnic.  These are qualities needed for a career in dance.

During Showcase day, the dancers were welcomed to Goucher; saw a performance by ClancyWorks (a professional modern dance company); took master classes in ballet, modern, jazz, Pilates, improvisation and African; rehearsed in Kraushaar Auditorium, and presented a concert for the public in the evening.

Annapolis High School (Jillian Barber, Teacher) won the Showcase Award for Professionalism and Performance.

This is the second year for Showcase awards.  AACPS has won the state award both years (Arundel in 2006).
