To Volunteer
Career Clusters
are part of a federally funded grant to structure students’ learning
in smaller learning communities within five high schools. Each
cluster focuses learning around a broad area, much like a college
major, and they provide a great entry point for business and
community members to contribute.
What are
the five clusters?
-
Arts, Communication and Humanities
-
Business, Management and Finance
-
Engineering, Mechanical and
Information Technologies
-
Health, Environmental and Life
Sciences
-
Human Services
What is the purpose of a Cluster
Resource Board?
Assist Anne Arundel County Public
Schools in implementing small learning communities:
- real-life
examples from the workplace
- To help school
staff in two ways: to provide to illustrate concepts in the
curriculum, called “Blended Instruction,” and to
- Help recruit
other businesses to participate in
community involvement activities
(PDF format)
What will Cluster
Resource Boards do?
1. Provide
a forum for discussion on current trends in this cluster – how
occupations in this cluster are changing, and what kinds of skills
will be needed in the future.
2. Help
classroom teachers make connections between course content and work
experiences related to the cluster.
3. Help
recruit businesses in the cluster for employer involvement
activities.
4. Work with post-secondary partners
in helping students make a smooth transition from high school
through academic advisement and course selection.
The
Bottom Line

in getting this new initiative up and running. In return for your
help, you get to know and work with peers in your industry area,

community.
