Elected by the Chesapeake Regional
Association of Student Councils (CRASC) to serve as the 2007-8 student
member of the Board, Sage Snider
is a senior at Severna Park High School. While consistently
excelling in a challenging course load, Sage has played leading roles in
many theatrical productions and is president of her school’s Model UN Club.
Also an accomplished violinist in styles ranging from classical to
bluegrass, Sage is not only the concertmistress of her school orchestra, but
has also played in the Maryland All-State Orchestra and “Side By Side” with
the Baltimore Symphony.
A recipient
of the Girl Scout Gold Award for leadership and community service, Sage has
been an advocate for well-rounded education and students rights since first
testifying before the county Board of Education as a fifth grade student.
Since then she has held several CRASC offices and served on various AACPS
committees. She is particularly proud of creating and fundraising for an
annual CRASC leadership scholarship. Sage was also one of two students
selected to represent Maryland in the 46th Annual United States
Senate Youth Program in recognition of her “scholarship and demonstrated
qualities of leadership.”
Aware that
the nearly 74,000 students of AACPS are fortunate to have a student board
member with full voting rights representing their interests, Sage is
committed to helping empower students. She hopes to increase the use and
usefulness of the interactive student website (aacstudents.org), which gives
students across the county an accessible way to discuss school issues.
Sage’s future
plans include attending a liberal arts college, graduate school, and,
ultimately, continuing to work on behalf of the arts and education.
