Deborah T. Ritchie
was appointed to a five-year term on the Board of Education of Anne Arundel County in July 2010.
A resident of Anne Arundel County for over 40 years, Mrs. Ritchie is a graduate of Severna Park High School and Anne Arundel Community College. She holds an associate’s degree in nursing and is a registered nurse with the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Baltimore.
Mrs. Ritchie and her husband, Keith, have lived in the Pasadena community for the past 23 years. Mrs. Ritchie was an active volunteer within the schools her daughter attended, both as a classroom volunteer and as a parent leader. She has served on the PTA at Jacobsville Elementary, the Anne Arundel County Council of PTAs, and completed a two-year term as president of the Maryland Parent Teacher Association in 2009. She is also a board member of the 21st Century Education Foundation.
Mrs. Ritchie has served on numerous educational committees and advisory councils at the school, county, and state levels. Her philosophy as she participates is to remember the diverse community in which we live, always keeping in mind that any decision made must be in the best interest of the students. Mrs. Ritchie believes that family and community engagement is a crucial element in the education of our students.
Her daughter, Heather, is a 2008 graduate of Chesapeake High School and pursuing a degree in Early Elementary Education. Mrs. Ritchie’s niece is a middle school student in Anne Arundel County.
