Patricia
Ray Nalley was appointed to a five-year term on the Board of Education
of Anne Arundel County on July 1, 2007.
A
longtime educator, Mrs. Nalley served as an elementary school teacher
for 31 years, an assistant principal for three years, and recently
retired after nine years as the principal of Davidsonville Elementary
School.
She led
the opening of the new Davidsonville Elementary School in 2002 and was
nominated for the Washington Post Distinguished Educational Leadership
Award in the same year. Under her leadership, the school was often
recognized for academic achievement on Maryland School Assessments and
as a “green” school for incorporating environmental education into the
curriculum. Parent volunteerism also rose to an amazing 25,000 hours
annually.
Committing her career and personal time to the advancement of
educational goals at the state and local levels for more than 40 years,
she has participated in several professional development courses and
countless committees, including Principals
Leadership Institute, Chesapeake Bay Foundation, and Elementary Standard
Practices Committee.
Mrs.
Nalley is a member of the South Anne Arundel County Rotary Club and the
Delta Gamma Alumni Association and has held memberships in the Maryland
Association of Elementary School Principals, National Association of
Elementary School Principals, Association for Supervision and Curriculum
Development, and the American Education Leaders.
Mrs.
Nalley and her husband, Bill, live on the Broadneck peninsula. Their
blended family includes four children: Matthew Strohm Evans, III, and
his wife, Margaret Rose Evans; Meg Evans Hayden and husband, Brad; Laura
Nalley, and Chris Nalley along with grandchildren, Matthew IV, "Bo", Ryder, Heather, Ali
and Peyton.
