The Maryland State Arts Council’s Arts in Education AiE Artists-in-Residence Program          

Deadline: June 8, 2006
Program
Summary:
The AiE Artists-in-Residence Program provides opportunities for hands-on intensive workshops involving a small core group of students and teachers over a number of days or weeks. Artists and companies selected by an advisory panel to participate in the Artists-in-Residence Program are listed on the Artists-in-Residence Roster of Artists.  Artists are selected for inclusion in the Artists-in-Residence Program on the basis of their artistic achievement and their ability to work with students and faculty in a school environment. Residencies are available in: Performing Arts: dance, multi-discipline, music, puppetry, and theater; Playwriting; Poetry; and Visual Arts: architecture, ceramics, dollmaking/puppetmaking, fiber arts, glass, handmade paper/books/artist books, media, mixed media, murals, photography, sculpture, site specific installation, and two dimensional art.

Summer School in the Arts (NEA)

Deadline: Submit a Statement of Interest through Grants.gov by May 22. From these, up to 100 organizations will be invited to busmit formal applications to be due August 28.
Program Summary: The National Endowment for the Arts’ Summer Schools in the Arts program supports rigorous, challenging summer arts education programs that enable children and youth to acquire knowledge and skills in the arts as well as gain lifelong interests in the arts and culture.
Eligibility: Independent school districts with at least a three-year history of providing arts education instruction. Funding not available for individual elementary, secondary, charter and private schools directly.
Grant Awards: $15,000 - $35,000

American Honda Foundation

Deadline:

Applications accepted quarterly. Next upcoming deadline is May 1.

Program Summary: Honda will be making grants to help youth, pre-K to age 21, learn about physical and life sciences, mathematics and the environmental sciences.  The foundation seeks grantees that are: imaginative, youthful, forward-thinking, scientific, humanistic and innovative.
Eligibility: Educational institutions, K-12, accredited higher education institutions, and non-profit institutions.
Grant Awards: $40,000 - $80,000

ASCAP Foundation music education grant

Deadline: October 1
Program Summary: These are annual grants supporting educational programs for aspiring songwriters and composers
Eligibility: 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations engaged in music education and talent development programs.

Discovery School and CDW-G Random Drawing for Computer Lab

Deadline: May 1
Program Summary:
Through a random drawing, two schools will receive 20 notebook computers and wireless access plus onsite installation and training. In addition, 30 other runners up will receive prizes.
Eligibility: Sweepstakes is open to employees of accredited public, private or parochial schools serving K-12 graders in the U.S.

VSA arts Playwright Discovery Award

Deadline: April 15 and July 1
Program Summary: VSA arts makes awards to encourage middle and high school students to write a one-act play examining how disability affects their lives and the lives of others.  Two scripts will be professionally staged at the Kennedy Center.  Winning playwrights receive $1,000 scholarship awards and a trip to Washington, DC to watch the Kennedy Center production.
Eligibility: Disabled or non-disabled 6-12 grade students working alone or in a group.  Plays may be autobiographical, biographical or fictional.

USA Today All-USA Teacher Team 

Deadline: April 29
Program Summary:

USA Today newspaper seeks 20 excellent teachers or teacher-teams (of no more than 4) to make up this year’s All-USA Teacher Team.  Currently active, full-time, certified K-12 teachers and instructional teams with at least 4 years of experience at a public or private school in the U.S. or its territories are eligible

Eligibility:  Candidates may be nominated by students, former students, parents, colleagues, staff members or administrators.  An instructional team is a group of no more than 4 teachers assigned to collaborate, plan, teach and evaluate the same group of students. Teachers who team-teach a course are eligible, but those who teach individually and work together only on special projects or programs are not.
Grant Awards:  Each winner’s school receives $2,500 to use in instruction - $500 to each teacher and the remainder to the school for use as designated by the teacher – and will be featured next October in USA Today.

Kids in Need Teacher Grant Program

Deadline:  September 30
Program Summary: The purpose of the grant is to provide funds for classroom teachers who have innovative, meritorious ideas but lack the budget to bring them to life.  Project must make creative use of common teaching aids, approach the curriculum from an imaginative angle, or tie nontraditional concepts together for the purpose of illustrating commonalities.  Innovation and merit account for 40% of the evaluation.
Eligibility: K-12 certified teacher teaching in the subject of the project at a public, private, or parochial school within the U.S.  No pre-school!

Moss Foundation Teachers’ Awards

Deadline: May 1
Program Summary: Honors teachers who have used art as a cornerstone in effectively teaching special education students.
Eligibility: Teachers at schools and nonprofit organizations that serve special needs students through art programs.
Grant Awards: From $2,500 - $1,000 for both teacher and school
