What is the gifted/talented/advanced program's philosophy?

Students come to our schools with unique combinations of abilities and talents, learning rates, learning styles and learning experiences.

As such, we believe that our schools have the responsibility to:

  • Recognize demonstrated and potential talents.
  • Provide flexible and multifaceted programs which enable each student to attain full potential in a variety of appropriately challenging learning environments.
Our programs are based on the belief that schools should identify and help develop gifted behaviors in all students. We recognize the importance of providing diverse learning opportunities that allow for student choice and talent development.

The philosophy adopted by Anne Arundel County Public Schools reflects contemporary knowledge and thinking about the nature of giftedness, recognizes "gifted behaviors" rather than "gifted individuals" and fosters the development of an inclusive rather than an exclusive approach to gifted/talented education.
