Introduction:We
have been studying about Maryland in Social
Studies. You and your partners are being asked to research information
about Maryland's capital, history, symbols, counties, and economy. You
will record the information that you gather by using a graphic organizer
program such as Kidspiration or Inspiration.

TASK ONE:Locate
information about the
Maryland
State Symbols.
1. Find out about the following state symbols: dog, fish,
and the crustacean. Identify two interesting facts about each of
these symbols.
2.Read about the state flower, bird and insect. Write
about what they have in common.
3.Select one other state symbol. Why was this symbol chosen
to represent Maryland?

1.According to this map of the counties identify the region
that Anne Arundel county is located.
2.Identify the other counties and city located in this region.
3.Name three counties that probably produce crabs, oysters
and fish. What workers do you think would be effected, and in what ways,
when their production is plentiful?

THREE: Locate information about the design of
the county
seal and the origin of the name of the county.
Imagine that you have recently arrived in Lord Baltimore's
colony from England. Write a letter to relatives back home in England
informing them about the seal and the origin of the county name.
