Notes to the teacher

Students should bring paper and pencil to the lab and they will complete work on their own paper. There is no graphic organizer.

This activity will be followed up in Math class. Students will bring their population data to class and the teacher will present additional problems using the data. For example:

Compute the total population of the four counties you chose.
Look at the county with the highest population. How many more people live in that county than the county with the lowest population?

The Bonus question is intended for those students who finish the other sections early. All students might not get to the Bonus step.

The Conclusion could be completed as a homework assignment, as Morning Work or in Language Arts writing activity rather than during Math class. The letter could also be done in the Computer Lab using a word processor.
