TASK 1: Research

*Read all directions before you begin your research.

Step One: Working with partners, create a graphic organizer on which to record information about the regions you will be investigating. Be sure to include space for both physical and human characteristics.

Remember, physical characteristics describe the natural environment of a place (landforms, bodies of water, weather and climate, soil, vegetation, animal life.) Human characteristics describe the people of the place, both past and present, their languages, religions, economic activities, political systems, and their modifications to the environment (buildings, bridges, tunnels, railroads, dams, monuments, piers, cultivated land, settlements.)
Step Two: Examine the regions of Maryland found in Overview of Maryland Regions. Decide which region each of you will investigate. You and your partners should now brainstorm a list of places that you already know of that you may want to include in your plan.

Step Three: You will locate information concerning the physical and human characteristics that distinguish the region you have chosen. Select web sites from the following list of resources and record your information on the organizer you have created.

When you have completed your research, continue to Task Two.

Please note that some of these sites are in a "frames" view which some people find bothersome to work with.  To remove the frame view, right click in an open space (not on a graphic) and select Open Frame in New Window.
