Stand Alone Mac:

Disk Repair

Power Mac

• If computer continues to freeze insert the Apple CD and hold down the Letter 'C' and start key to boot the computer from the Apple CD.
• Click on the CD Icon
• Click on Utilities
• Click on disk repair
• It will locate any problems on the Hard drive and click on Verify
• Note: If the hard drive does not show up on the desktop go to hard drive setup under the utilities and select update.

LC Models:

• Hold down Control, Option, Shift, and the Delete keys
• Click on the CD Icon
• Click on Utilities
• Click on disk repair
• It will locate any problems on the Hard drive and click on Verify
• Note: If the hard drive does not show up on the desktop go to hard drive setup under the utilities and select update
• If still frozen try holding down Control, Open Apple, and Del; or Control Open Apple, and Start key.
• If still frozen locate power source and turn off.

Turning Extensions Off:

• To start machine with extensions off hold down the Shift key and turn the machine on
• Note: This will also start the machine without HyperCard)

Increasing a Programs Memory

• Go to the hard drive
• Double click on program that you would like to increase the memory on
• Highlight the program icon
• Click on File from the top menu bar
• Click on Get Information
• Increase both Minimum and Preferred size
• Close when complete

How to rebuild the desktop (this should be done once a month)

• Hold down the option and the command key and turn the computer on
• Keep these buttons held down until the computer asks if you would like to rebuild the desktop and answer YES (This will speed your machine up)

 Frozen Computer:

• Hold down the Control, Open Apple, Option, Shift, and Esc keys, computer will prompt to force quit application you are frozen in.
• If still frozen try holding down Control, Open Apple, and Del; or Control Open Apple, and Start key.
• If still frozen locate power source and turn off.

To correct memory problems:

• To reset the P-RAM
• Hold down the command, option, letters 'P' and 'R' keys

To force empty trash can:

• Hold down the Option key and click on the trash can
