Introduction
-
Suppose it were your job to create
a chart for all of the chemical elements. How would you do this ?
You might arrange them alphabetical from A to Z. You also might arrange
them by there year of discovery. But there must be a better
way to organize your chart. It should show at a glance, relationships
among elements. You are lucky, a chart called the Periodic Table exist.
The Task
During this
WebQuest, you will be able to:
-
Print an updated Periodic Chart.
-
Identify the different sections of
the Periodic Chart, label the different parts to your chart and print a
copy.
The Process
1. Report to the computer
lab and you will be working in groups of two.
2. Open the file called
"periodic chart" (see below). Make sure to minimize the chart
and place on the Task Bar.

3. The first web site
will enable you to print an updated periodic chart. Visit this site and
choose to print an updated periodic chart for this activity.

4. The next web site will
enable you to identify different elements on the chart. Complete this activity
by dragging an element to the blank periodic chart. Add these elements
to your chart.

Right click on the task bar to open a window.

Select "Tiling Vertically"
5. The next activity
will work with tricky symbols. Click and drag the correct symbols and names
into the correct chart. Complete the
chart in Excel (Sheet two) and add the symbols to your chart.
Identify
the Tricky Elements.
6. The next activity
will identify the different families/groups or periods/series. Identify
the following groups, periods, or special elements. Use the ledger to identify
the special elements.
