Bibliographic Formats

There are many styles and forms to cite sources to support research. Two of the most widely used styles of citations are Modern Language Association (MLA) and the American Psychological Association (APA). The MLA style is generally used by the humanities while APA citations are used by the sciences and social sciences.  Standards for citing electronic sources are still being created. The best general advice is to follow the guidelines established by MLA or APA, including all information necessary to establish the cyberspace location of the source.

Another good source of information for citing Internet resources in Classroom Connect's Connected Teacher Page.

Check with your library media specialist for the bibliographic format generally accepted in your school. The media specialist will also have information for citing online subscription databases such as EBSCOhost, InfoTrac, NewsBank NewsFile, Sirs, etc.
