Literary Magazine I
in this one or two semester elective, students participate in a production company
to conceptualize, create, and publish a school-wide literary arts magazine. They
analyze exemplary publications and apply national criteria for evaluating whole
magazines and original student work on poetry, fiction, drama, the essay ,
music,
visual arts, and other media. Students develop the essay, music, visual arts and
other media. Students develop and apply a code of ethics concerning the publication,
treatment, and verification of works' originality. Students develop and implement
a plan for soliciting original submissions, ensuring diversity of student voices
and
encouraging participation in the expressive arts across the school community.
Students collaborate in all aspects of production. They organize staff,
tasks, and budget and create a thematic concept that governs design and
content. While students collaborate and contribute in all phases of magazine

skills necessary to evaluate a wide variety of student art and writing and
make effective editorial choices that support design concepts and respect
the integrity of an artists' intentions. In the editorial role, students
collaborate on a style guide to be refined each year, and develop policy and
procedures to deal with plagiarism. They contribute to design layouts,
select media, make revisions and implements other publishing decisions.
