Introduction
Could
another 9-11 happen because of the decisions made as long ago as 1945?
The Task
You
have been selected by the government to find out if another incident like
9-11 could happen again with terrorists using North Korea as a base for
their operation. The President wants to know if the decisions made
by the Allies at the end of WWII and during the Cold War created a situation
in North Korea that will cost American lives today. Mr. Bush wants
to know what he should do about the situation. He has declared North
Korea part of the "Axis of Evil", now he wants to know how to exorcise
the evil.
- You will be doing research
about the end of World War II, the Cold War, the creation of two separate
Koreas, the Korean War, and the current economic and political situation
in North Korea.
- Once you have gathered the
basics about Korea you will be using that information to determine
if the decisions made between 1945 and 1954 helped cause the situation
today where President Bush has declared Korea part of the "Axis of
Evil"
- Once you have drawn your conclusions
you will be making a recommendation to President Bush about his foreign
policy toward North Korea.
- You will be presenting your
conclusion and recommendation to the President in a PowerPoint
presentation, series of flip charts, or an essay.
The Process
- You'll be assigned a partner
to help you in the research and decision making process.
- Partner #1 will complete
assignment A.
- Partner #2 will complete
assignment B.
- You will both work together
to draw conclusions and make a recommendation.
- Next, you will create a presentation:
- explaining the reasons for
the division of Korea,
- a description of the Korean
War,
- the problems for the Korean
people caused by the division,
- the economic & political
problems resulting from the division,
- stating and supporting your
conclusions,
- stating and explaining your
recommendations to President Bush,
- a bibliography.
- Present your completed project
to the class.

Think about how
