Background

You are a member of the Board of Directors at your county Food Bank.  Since you rely on donations, the state of the economy always has an impact on whether the Food Bank will have enough resources to last through the year.  Inflation, unemployment, production and the business cycle are all factors in the Food Bank's ability to provide necessary resources.  The Board of Directors is responsible for analyzing the current economic trends and predicting their effect on the agency in attempts to set the focus and direction of the Food Bank.

Overview of Task

The Board of Directors must prepare an annual projection of need for the Food Bank.  It will be submitted in the form of an electronic report.  It must include:

  • A spreadsheet that details and analyzes important data;

  • A graph that demonstrates the most important data;

  • A written explanation of the impact of the economy and possible governmental actions on future need and direction; and

  • A public information piece that shares this data effectively with the general population to help meet needs.

As a follow-up, the President of your Board of Directors will be asked to participate in a roundtable discussion regarding possible governmental actions (using fiscal and monetary policy) that will have an impact on the economy and can assist or affect charitable agencies as they try to meet their community needs.
