Essential Understanding:

Students will understand that the weather of region affects the daily lives of the people of that region.
Introduction: StudentTravel.com has hired you and your partners as student interns. Your clients are school groups from other countries who are traveling to Baltimore and to one additional city.  Your job is to give your clients the latest information regarding the weather in these two cities and to recommend a final itinerary.  For each destination clients have already received suggested indoor and outdoor itineraries such as: Space for luggage is limited so students will be forced to pack lightly.  It will be important for them to know what kind of weather to expect so that they pack the appropriate clothing.

Task 1:  First, use Kidspiration or Inspiration to create a graphic organizer on which to record the following data.  Next, visit Automated Weather Source to gather information about today's local weather forecast.

You will need to enter the zip code of your school to find...

  • Today's expected temperature.
  • Today's expected humidity.
  • Today's expected wind.
  • Today's expected daily rain.
  • Today's expected pressure.
  • Today's expected wind chill, if available.

  • Task 2:  Select a second U.S. city for your clients to visit and find today's weather forecast for that city. In order to do this, you must know the zipcode of that city.  Click on Get Live Weather. First, find the zipcode for the second city. Next, return to  Automated Weather Source to collect the information you need.

Task 3:  You now have today's weather data for the two cities.  At the Weather Service Home Page, examine the weather map for the 7-day surface forecast and write a brief forecast for the next three days for each of the cities.

Return to the Weather Service Home Page to check your forecast.
Write a message that could be emailed to your clients to give them the latest information regarding the weather in the two cities they will be visiting. Recommend the clothes they should bring as well as a final itinerary.
