I am honored and very proud to serve as your PTA President for the 2011-2012 school year. I have been involved at Bodkin for more than 6 years as a classroom volunteer, PTA Treasurer, and also PTA President, and what never ceases to amaze me is the outstanding support our PTA receives. We are so fortunate to be part of a community that comes together and supports its members like family. Bodkin Elementary is truly a Treasure, and we are honored to be a part of the Chesapeake Bay family. This year’s theme BODKIN: A TREASURE ON THE BAY speaks volume about our commitment to being a Green School, being a steward of the Bay, and a steward to our community.
The vision of the PTA continues to be the same: Make each child’s potential a reality. This is accomplished by parent, teacher, and community involvement in the education of each child. Our monthly PTA meetings are held the third Wednesday of each month. We embrace an open-door policy, so please feel free to join us. Our first General Membership Meeting will be held on Back-to-School Night (9/1/11) so that all Bodkin families may be informed of this year’s PTA-sponsored activities and our financial goals.
Membership is the backbone of a PTA, and its members make it possible to implement the great PTA programs that serve our children, families, teachers, and staff. So, with that in mind, please join us on the Bodkin Elementary PTA for the 2011-2012 school year. A family membership is still only $10, and individual membership is $7.
Our Second Annual RACE FOR EDUCATION will be held on Tuesday, October 11th. Last year’s event was such a HUGE success and by far one of the students’ FAVORITE days of the school year! This year we are looking for businesses to sponsor our RACE, and we will have a t-shirt available to all participants. We welcome parents, family, and friends to come and join the students on this fun and exciting day!
We have many committees and several PTA-sponsored events, and we always welcome new PTA members aboard to bring these ideas to life! Whether you would like to help with Math SuperStars, Book Fair, Yearbook, BoxTops, Spirit Wear, Race for Education…there is always a place for you!! We LOVE our volunteers at Bodkin and ALWAYS appreciate your time and effort…no matter how great or small!!
I look forward to working with the students, parents, family members, teachers, staff, community, and area businesses to make this another fantastic year at Bodkin Elementary!
