Guiding our school’s mission will be the Anne Arundel County Public Schools goals of Academic Achievement, Safe and Supportive Learning Environment, Workforce Quality, Community Engagement, and Equity. A quality education is as important to us as it is to you.
To meet these goals, our staff will continue the vigorous Open Court Reading in an effort to reach 100% proficiency in Reading. Teachers will differentiate instruction in two ways: first by compacting instruction for students needing acceleration and by tiering instruction to meet the differentiated needs of all learners at Bodkin. Similarly in math, compacting and tiering will be utilized along with the Envision math program of Scott Foresman to also reach 100% proficiency. To support our advanced learners, a talent development teacher will co-teach in the classroom, and AVID-like strategies will be continued into the fifth grade and fourth grade.
In addition to academics, our state award-winning character education program will continue to compliment and support our countywide goal to provide a safe and supportive learning environment. We will continue with the unbelievable community engagement represented by over 600 volunteers with well over 12,000 documented hours. Bodkin also has a proactive PTA with over 316 members last year helping to enrich the Bodkin Elementary School experience throughout the year.
The Bodkin Family Handbook has been prepared to help orient you to Bodkin Elementary School and to supplement the Annual Parent/Student handbook published by Anne Arundel County Schools. Should you have any concerns or questions about classroom procedures or a specific incident, please contact your child’s teacher. In addition, should you need further clarification of our school’s practices, feel free to contact me or other members of my staff.
As the Principal of Bodkin Elementary School, I look forward to working with such an outstanding student population and parent community. It is an honor and privilege.
Sincerely,
Charles Jansky
Principal
