Hello and welcome
back to the 2008-2009 school year! I am looking forward to seeing our
returning families and very thrilled to welcome many new members to our school!
I am excited to begin my first full year as the Principal of Arundel Middle
School. The Administration team has been busy all summer preparing for the start
of what plans to be an exciting school year.
The
infusion of color into our school seems to have lifted everyone’s
spirits! If you have not yet seen our freshly painted walls
then you are in for a treat. Whoever decided that the word “blue” is
synonymous with “sad” never saw the shade of blue on the walls of
Arundel Middle’s main office! I hope you find yourself
smiling as you inspect the lovely place where your children will
spend their days.
I am pleased to announce that Arundel Middle made AYP! We had
significant progress in all areas, and our teachers will continue to
provide your child with a rigorous learning environment to be
successful this school year. We continually strive for academic
success for each student at Arundel Middle. If you have any concerns
regarding academics, please do not hesitate to contact any of your
child's teachers. They are an important resource for your
child's success, and
the teachers at Arundel are incredible! We will continue to have
rigorous expectations in EVERY classroom, for EVERY student, with NO
excuses, and NO exceptions.
Please take time to
review the information provided in the Student Handbook and Parent
Handbooks. The intent of this handbook is to keep you informed and
to encourage your participation in school activities. The monthly
calendar provides you with activities regarding AACPS events,
programs, and special information for report cards, interims, and
school closings. The information pages are designed to inform
you of important policies and practices of AACPS. Creating a safe
and friendly learning environment is a priority at Arundel Middle
School. Through our newly developed advisory programs,
students will have an opportunity to learn many strategies on how to
handle peer issues in an appropriate manner.
As we begin this school year, remember that you play a significant
role in your child’s academic career. We can’t achieve success
without your support! We are always in need of parent
volunteers, whether you help in the classroom or work at a PTA
event, we’d love to
have you volunteer
your time at Arundel Middle School. We are counting on you to
become an integral member of the school community. Education is a
partnership that cannot occur without the support of every staff
member, the involvement of every parent, and the commitment of every
student. Working together as partners in your child’s education, we
will continue to focus on having high expectations and increasing
academic achievement.
Our goal is to make
middle school a positive learning experience for each student,
ensuring that each student achieves success both inside the
classroom and in the many activities offered. We are also
looking forward to you meeting our faculty at back to School Night
on September 9th beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the gym. We will share
important information from Administration and PTA to kick-off the
New Year at Arundel Middle prior to visiting your student’s classes.
We look forward
to meeting each of you and sharing our experiences as we continue to
be an outstanding learning community.
Warmly,
Shawn Ashworth
