The goal of the Elementary School Guidance Program at Waugh Chapel Elementary is to assist every student in acquiring the knowledge, attitudes, and skills needed to make and implement appropriate educational, career, and personal decisions.  While there is a program focus on prevention, the objectives of the elementary guidance program are to assist students in developing:
bullet The skills for effective learning
bullet A positive self-concept and self-direction
bullet Successful coping behaviors
bullet An awareness of the word of work
bullet Effective communication skills
All this is accomplished through student individual meetings/conferences, student small-group counseling/guidance, classroom guidance lessons and two school-wide programs (No Putdowns and Second Step).
As a student advocate, the counselor works cooperatively with other individuals (parents, teachers, administrators) and outside organizations to promote the development of Waugh Chapel's children and their families in our community.  Visitations, conferences, in-services, workshops, and forums, to name a few, are some of the ways of collaboration and consulting.  Our Human Relations Committee which is chaired by our school counselor, also plans programs and activities that bring our school, our community, and our parents closer together.
To find out more or if you would like to come in and meet with our school counselor, please call Mrs. Kim Patterson at 410-222-6542/6544.
