Welcome
Sunset Elementary opened its doors in
1971. Its open-space design is typical of school architecture of
that time. In 1996 we celebrated our 25th Anniversary, which was
recognized by the Maryland House of Delegates. That same year our
school was lauded for its efforts to help needy children. We received a
Governor's Citation, as well as an Achievement Award from the State Superintendent
of Schools. In 1997 and 1998 we were recognized for consistent
progress on the Maryland School Assessment Program. As a result
we received a considerable grant award.
As experienced educators our staff
strives to lead each and every child to his/her full potential. We
value and foster individual differences and abilities. Sunset staff
members are committed to the growth and development of the "whole" child.
In these challenging times we believe
that it really does "take a village to raise a child." Parent volunteers
are essential to the effective functioning of our school. Our PTA
and CAC provide invaluable service to the school and surrounding community.
It is the relationship between school staff and parents that makes Sunset
Elementary a special place to learn.
