PRESCHOOL

Our preschool department serves children ages 3 to 5, who have a variety of disabilities ranging from speech and language delays to severe and profound handicapping conditions.  We utilize a multi-sensory approach to learning, building on the strengths of each individual student.  While our program is language-based, the focus is on all areas of development: language, cognition, gross motor, fine motor, self-care, and social/emotional growth.  Independence is stressed, even at this early age.

PRIMARY

The primary department has students ranging in age from 6 to 11 years. Our instruction continues in the areas  of communication, daily living, and social/emotional skills.  At this level, our students also learn functional academics and community skills based on each individual's needs.  Development of independences in the home, school, and community settings is a major component to our program.student wearing red and white Dr. Suess hat

INTERMEDIATE

The students of the intermediate department  range in age from 11 to 16 and are exposed to many new experiences in  the area of vocational development.  Students participate in several school enclaves (i.e. in house vocational program, cafeteria, and laundry)  Opportunities for skills to be carried over into the community take place on a regular basis.  Social skill development is emphasized throughout the day and especially during our "clubs,"  which offer students a chance to socialize with peers during high preference  leisure activities.

SENIOR

Beginning at age 16, students become a part of the senior department.  Our senior department provides an instructional program that incorporates the learning domains of vocational skills, recreation/leisure, health and safety, and physical needs.  Activities emphasize good social skills, appropriate behaviors, and communication needs in a variety of settings.  The strong vocational program provides experiences that meet the needs, abilities, and interests of our students.  Community work enclaves include Lighthouse Shelter, Wal-Mart, BWI Marriott, and 7-Eleven.
