Media

The focus of the lessons in the Media Center is to support the skills being taught in the classroom at Overlook Elementary.
The goal of the Media Center Program at Overlook is to increase awareness and usage of our school media center for both personal reading and research.  In addition, I am striving to increase student usage of our county public library system.  A school library club exists to promote this goal.

Reading Tips for Parents

1. For very young children, read out loud to your child. (Even middle school children enjoy being read to.)
2. Have your child read every day.
3. Take a book wherever you go.
4. Encourage reading everything you can such as maps, menus, signs, newspapers, magazines, etc.
5. Talk about what your child is reading.
6. Keep a log of what your child reads.
7. Let you child see you read.
8. Take your child to the local public library often.
9. Join the local public library summer reading program.  (pre-k to Grade 12)  It's Free!
