The Guidance program at
Overlook Elementary is designed to support academic achievement by focusing
on the development of an individuals potential and the responsibility to
self and others. Through counseling, consultation, and coordination of
services, the counselor is proactive in helping students become responsible
citizens and life-long learners. This is accomplished though classroom
guidance lessons, small group counseling, and responsive services. Some

Counselors hold a Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling and required
state certification in school counseling. Maintaining certification
requires ongoing professional development to stay current with education
reform.
