1st Grade
Mrs. Chami Waddell

We continue to focus on reading strategies to help first graders become independent readers. At home you can help by:

  1. Reviewing wordlist in your child's reading notebook.
  2. Reading their daily journal and seatwork together.
  3. Listening to your child read their weekly reading book.
  4. Encourage your child to read daily for 15 minutes
  5. Visit the public library.
  6. Playing games using their words.

We also do many types of writing activities to help the students become independent writers. Encourage your child to show examples of their writing activities to you. At home you can  help by making a writing box with a variety of paper, pens, crayons, and other writing materials. Encourage your child to write notes, make books, etc. to use their writing skills.

In Math we will continue to focus on addition and subtraction fact families. We also will begin a unit in April on place value.  Help at home with basic facts, reading and writing numbers to 200, and practicing with money would be beneficial!

Please help us daily by checking you child's planner and making sure they have pencils, crayons and glue sticks.

Thank You.
