Physical Education
Mrs. Anthony

Our program will consist of developmentally appropriate activities that create maximum opportunities for development of skills, knowledge, health-related fitness, and ultimately, the confidence to enjoy an active, healthy lifestyle.

Your child’s learning environment is safe and non-threatening and provides opportunities for success. You can help by making sure your child wears comfortable clothing and tennis shoes that are appropriate for movement on PE days.  If he/she is not dressed properly, he/she will not be able to participate in the day’s activities. Sometimes students must be excused from physical activity. If that is the case, please send a note explaining why your child cannot participate.

Over the course of the year, your child will be assessed in the following areas:  physical skills ( such as: fitness, basic movement, dance, rhythms, and manipulatives), knowledge, effort and sportsmanship.  My goal for the year is to help your child develop habits for a lifetime of fitness and health.  Research indicates that students who receive a quality physical education program will participate in more physical activities outside of school.

I want to encourage you to participate in your child’s physical development and fitness.  Children need a minimum of at least 60 minutes of activity everyday and what better way than by playing together.  Go for a walk, take a bike ride or toss a ball.  It is very important for your children to see you being physically active as role models.

Thank you for partnering with Overlook’s physical education program to develop your child’s lifetime health and fitness.  By working together we can bring the joy and health of physical activity to your child and family.
