Awesome
All-stars
This is a program that recognizes exemplary behavior of students who follow the
Odenton Way, the school-wide rules, and demonstrate courtesy and
cooperation. Ms. Wood, the guidance counselor, coordinates this initiative. Every two weeks each classroom teacher in grades one through
five selects two students to be recognized for this award. The students receive a breakfast treat, certificate and an
Awesome All-star pencil.
WOES Broadcast
A group of fifth grade students, under the direction of Mrs. Gobbi, the media
specialist, and Ms. Wood, the guidance counselor, broadcast the morning news
that is viewed on every classroom television. Positions include cameraman,
anchor, cue cardholder and other technicians.
The announcements include the pledge of allegiance, the playing of a
patriotic song, lunch menu and other important news.
Reading Incentive Program
Odenton Elementary proudly participates in the Book-It reading incentive
program. We strongly believe in the
importance of reading, which is why we have DEAR (drop everything and read) and
teacher read aloud in our classrooms each day.
Book-It challenges the students to read at home on a regular basis.
Students and classes are recognized each month for their accomplishments.
Human Relations Committee
Students meet on a regular basis with Ms. Wood, the guidance counselor, and plan
activities throughout the year that emphasize helping other people.
Initiatives have included collecting canned goods and winter clothing
(i.e., hats, gloves) for families in need.
The students are goodwill ambassadors who coordinate the school-wide
activities.
