The Magothy Orchestra is an outgrowth of the string classes. The group performs two evening concerts a year. The orchestra also performs at the Anne Arundel County Band and Orchestra Festival in the Spring. In addition, the Orchestra has an overnight trip to a national festival (Virginia, Pennsylvania or New York).
All State Orchestra is an auditioned group. Students from all over the state try out for this honor. The All State Orchestra performs at the Maryland Music Educators Conference in the spring (registration and audition in November).
All County Orchestra is an auditioned group. Students from all schools in the county try out for this orchestra in November (registration in October). The All County Orchestra plays for the public at one of the county's senior high schools.
Solo and Ensemble Festival. Advanced students
play solos and ensembles for an adjudicator and are rated on how well they
performed the compositions. Students that receive superior rating
may perform at the State Solo and Ensemble Festival. This festival
takes place in early spring (registration in January).
