Principal's Corner

It is hard to believe that we are into May and there are only seven weeks of the 2006-2007 school year remaining.  This is a very important time of the year and we need our students to remain focused on their schoolwork and finish the school year on a strong note.  We are looking forward to many events, field trips, assemblies, field day, concerts, Book Fair, School Carnival and fifth grade promotion.  With all of the excitement the end of the year brings us, we must make sure that all of our students are following school rules and routines.  Respect for self, others, learning and property is as important as always.  Our good citizens will be recognized at a June assembly for showing appropriate behavior during the fourth marking period.  Students who receive no more than three referrals will be invited to attend.

A special thank you to our science lead teacher, Mr. Wilcox and his team, Mrs. Slivka, Mrs. Schwartz and Mr. McCaplin, who coordinated our annual science fair for third, fourth and fifth graders.  The projects were on exhibit on April 12th during Family Science Night.  Our first place winner’s projects will be entered in the countywide science fair in May.  Congratulations to Brandon Mariano, Shawn Smith and Maddie Snyder.  We appreciate all the parents who supported their children in completing the projects.

May 7th  –  11th is Teacher Appreciation Week.  Our teachers and staff do an outstanding job all year teaching our students and serving the community.  Our staff is always willing to participate in extra activities such as Reading Night, Math Night, Science Night, Boat Show parking, evening musicals, extended day field trips, and Chick-Fil- A and Fuddrucker’s nights.   Many of the GEES teachers arrive for work as early as 7:00 am and continue working until late in the evening correcting papers, creating lesson plans, and meeting with parents.  I know from your comments, phone calls, and letters how much you appreciate their time, effort and the knowledge they give to your children.  I thank them for their hard work and unselfish dedication to educating the children of Georgetown East Elementary School.  They make “Seahawk Success” a reality.  Your children and I are fortunate to have them at our school.
