            In Language Arts, we are about to complete Unit 8 which is titled Games. The students have enjoyed reading the stories in this unit. On or around May 10th, 1st grade will begin our new unit titled Homes. This unit consists of stories about homes around the world and animal homes. The students will also read a story about the process used to build an actual home. It may be fun for the students to visit the library and find books describing different homes throughout the world.

            During our fourth marking period, we will count nickels, pennies, and dimes together. We will identify fractional parts of a whole. First graders will view a pictograph and write about two of their observations. We will also draw polygons and add the quarter to our list of coins to count.

            First grade will study magnets and environmental science for the fourth marking period. In social studies, we will continue with our Core Essential Program and Second Step Program. Our Core Essential value for the month of May is Learning. We will also study about the symbols used in our country.
