Speech/Language Services
Speech/Language services are available to Glendale students demonstrating a need in one or more of the following areas:
  • Language - skills necessary for expressing ideas and understanding the thoughts and ideas that one hears or reads
  • Articulation - production of speech sounds and the way those sounds are put together to form words, sentences, and conversational speech
  • Phonological awareness - skills necessary for hearing likenesses and differences among sounds, blending sounds, manipulating sounds, isolating sounds, identifying sound-symbol relationships, spelling and reading
  • Fluency - the flow or rhythm of speech
  • Voice - the quality of speech that could include pitch, loudness, and clarity
Individualized Education Plans containing goals and objectives for intervention are developed to align with curriculum in order to increase student academic achievement and school success. Speech/Language services are provided only to those students exhibiting an educational impact resulting from the speech or language difficulty.

Parents are reminded that speech and language skills are the primary way children indicate to others that they understand. Each child’s speech and language skills are evaluated by their classroom teachers daily. Individuals are required to listen, speak, read, and write. Success in these areas hinges on the development of appropriate speech and language skills.

Communication skills will be necessary throughout each child’s entire life. Together we can work to build existing skills in order to give each child the opportunity to be an effective communicator and a contributing member of society.
