Music
The music program at Glendale provides a variety of musical experiences for students in grades K - 5. The broad outcomes on which music curriculum is based are those in the Maryland State Department of Education’s Essential Learner Outcomes for the Fine Arts.
- Students demonstrate the ability to perceive, perform, and respond to music.
- Students demonstrate an understanding of music as an essential aspect of history and human experience.
- Students demonstrate an ability to organize musical ideas and sounds creatively.
- Students demonstrate an ability to make aesthetic judgments.
Instrumental Music Ensembles
Glendale Elementary School has two peforming instrumental music ensembles: The Glendale Concert Band and The Glendale String Ensemble. The Concert Band is open to all fourth and fifth grade students interested in learning how to play various band instruments including: flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, various low brass and percussion.
The String Ensemble is open to all third, fourth, and fifth grade students interested in learning how to play either the violin, viola, cello, or bass.
Both ensembles perform at least twice a year for the students, faculty and community. Glendale has a proud tradition of instrumental music performance that dates back to the 1950s. Mr. Christopher Lerch has been director of instrumental music since 1995.
