Physical Education
Students in grades K - 5 receive physical education for a half an hour twice a week. Instruction is given in the curriculum themes of basic movement, dance and rhythms, manipulative skills, ball handling skills, physical fitness, and supplemental themes. The physical fitness level of students in grades 3,4, and 5 is assessed twice each year. We will be starting a new assessment test called fitness gram in the spring of 2006.

There are other special events extending beyond regularly scheduled physical education classes . These include:
  • Sports Club for fourth and fifth grade
  • Jump rope for heart through the American Heart Association
  • School field day
  • Mission Impossible obstacle course
Glendale Sports Club
Sports Club is an after school activity for fourth and fifth grade students. Sports Club takes place on Wednesdays (fourth grade) and Thursdays (fifth grade) 2:30 to 3:45 pm. throughout the school year.

The sports and activities are a follow-up of the different units taught in physical education class.

Students are given a sports pass to take home and get signed by a parent or guardian that will be good for that week only. Each week passes will be handed out to try and give all students an opportunity to participate. Students must do a good job in class ( display good sportsmanship, behave well, and try their best) and have a good attendance record in order to be invited.
