An opportunity to learn to collect vital signs and other basic caregiving techniques. Nursing Assistants care for geriatric clients in long term care and assisted living facilities. This is a one semester course for 11th and 12th grade students. After successfully completing the Nursing Assistant course, the students will receive their Maryland State Nursing Assistant Certification and are eligible to sit for the Geriatric Nursing Assistant certification. Career opportunities are found in assisted living and extended care facilities, home health care, hospitals and the military. A senior year Cooperative Work Experience Program is available.
