Culinary Arts

The Culinary Arts program at the Center of Applied Technology North is dedicated to providing students with technical and academic skills to pursue a career in Culinary Arts or continued studies at a higher institution. In addition to the basic and advanced Culinary Arts skills and in response to employers who preferred hiring foodservice employees who obtained a "Certificate in Foodservice Sanitation," the students complete "ServSafe," a nationally certified microbiology course by the Educational Foundation of the National Restaurant Association. Since 2003, the Culinary Arts program has been accredited by the American Culinary Federation giving the students the opportunity to take a three hour written and a three hour lab practical test which enables them to become "Certified Secondary Culinary Graduates."

The Culinary Arts program has established articulation agreements with the following: Anne Arundel Community College for 7 credits, Johnson & Wales University for 17 credits, Baltimore International College for 7 credits, Art Institute of Washington for 7 credits, Florida Culinary $1,000 scholarship, Pennsylvania Culinary $7,000 scholarship, and Culinary Institute of America for sanitation certification. Students could apply to attend J & W University's ACCESS program completing their freshman year of college during their senior year of high school, walking across the stage with a year of college under their belt finishing a Bachelor's of Science degree three years out of high school.
