Denise Bader's 2008-2009 Message

Peering into the new school year I am looking forward to my new adventure serving the community as PTA President. I’ve been involved with Bodkin for over 6 years serving on various committees, chairing positions and holding the Vice President position on board. Becoming PTA president is a new challenge for me but one that I am looking forward to. The vision of the PTA is simple: Make each child’s potential a reality. This is accomplished by parent, teacher, and community involvement in the education of each child.

As in the past, our monthly meetings are held the third Wednesday of each month.  We embrace an open-door policy, so please feel free to join us.  Our first General Membership Meeting will be held on Back-to-School Night so that all Bodkin Families may be informed of the year’s activities, changes in our by-laws, and financial goals.

To give just a sample of the events that will be experienced as we "rock on" this year, we will begin with the 11th Annual "Running to Read" 5K Footrace that will take place on Saturday, October 11th.  There is much energy revolving around our largest "fundraiser" of the year.  The funds from this race benefit so many programs at Bodkin.  This past year, additional Chessie and Black-Eyed Susan books were purchased as well as needed supplies for our fantastic music department.  I invite students, teachers, and the greater community to come out on the  morning of October  11th to help us run and rock on at Bodkin.

Several PTA-sponsored cultural arts shows will be enjoyed by the students at Bodkin this school year.  Our cultural arts committee selects shows that are educational as well as fun.  Bodkin students will enjoy selecting from the Holiday Happenings workshop again this year, and Family Math and Reading Nights will be held.

My hope for the 2008-2009 school year is that each Bodkin family will feel invited to participate in the PTA and the many volunteer opportunities.  I would like to “revel in” the satisfaction that each Bodkin family gets from becoming involved in the PTA and their community school.
