SEVERN
RIVER MIDDLE SCHOOL LIBRARY MEDIA CENTER The goal of the Severn River Library Media Center is threefold:
STAFFThe Severn River Library staff includes:
HOURS & ACCESSIBILITYThe school library is available to students prior to the start of school, 8:10 - 9:00 a.m. Monday through Friday so long as there is adult supervision (librarian or lab tech) and the students are able to follow all school rules. Students may also use the school library during their lunch period. Both of these invitations to the library may be curtailed if students abuse the privilege. Students visit the library with their teacher for research, book exchange, library lessons and literature appreciation. In addition, students may come to the library in between classes to check out or return a book, purchase a pencil, learn about special library programs and /or extend a friendly greeting. The school library is open every Wednesday after school for any student who needs assistance with homework, research or computer projects or book selection. CIRCULATION OF MATERIALSNinety-nine percent of all library books and materials may be checked-out of the library including reference books. Fiction and nonfiction books circulate for twenty-one days with an opportunity for renewal. Magazines and reference books circulate overnight. To access the library's card catalog, click here. COLLECTION DEVELOPMENTThe school library prides itself on a well-balanced, up-to-date collection. The focus of the collection is one that supports every teaching curriculum. In addition, books are purchased for the needs, interests and curiosity of middle school students. INSTRUCTIONThe media specialist and teachers work in tandem to be sure that students are proficient in the media skills included in the middle school library curriculum. These skills are not taught in isolation but in conjunction with each department’s curriculum. The Severn River School Library Media Center is one that thrives on teaching students how to research efficiently and effectively. SPECIAL PROGRAMSEach year, the school library media center provides activities that foster student learning and independent reading.
