Location: Jessup, MD; Western Anne Arundel County on Rt. 175, approximately 8 miles from Fort George G. Meade; approximately 1 mile from Rt. 295; 7 miles from Columbia Maryland; school site 31.13 acres.

Facility: Built in 1955; renovated 1974 and 1994; new Pre-K addition added 1997; four levels; self-contained classrooms; two portable classrooms. 

Jessup Elementary is part of the Meade High School feeder system.

Technology at Jessup: Jessup Elementary has 2 computer labs - the main lab contains 33 Pentium-4 computers and the Media Research lab in the media center consists of 7 computers.  In addition, each classroom in grades 1-5 has 2 computers and a printer, and Pre-K and kindergarten classrooms each have 1 computer.  All of these computers are networked together on Jessup's instructional server. All computers have Internet access. These technological advances were made possible through the Anne Arundel County Public Schools REFRESH Program and a TIMS Grant from the Maryland Department of Education.

Jessup (from BW Parkway to railroad track to Dorsey Rd); Dorsey Rd; Brockbridge Rd toward Rt. 175; Holiday Mobile Estates / Clark Rd; along Rt. 175 toward BW Parkway (Rae Rd, McCarron Ct, etc.); Ridgefield; Ridgewood Estates; Sandridge; Provinces; Severn Ridge (Cedar Dr); Ridge Rd to Severn Rd & Severn Rd to Disney Rd; Peach Orchard; Lake Village (Halehaven, Redhaven Dr, Loring, Red Globe); Severn Meadows; Disney Estates; Strawberry Hills; Warfield (Richfield Dr).

Student Population: Enrollment - 520 students; levels Pre-K through Grade 5; diverse population comprised of 52% White, 38% African-American, 6% Hispanic and 4% Asian.

Professional Development School: In partnership with

University Level: Towson University instructor (1); Towson University seniors (10); Towson University juniors (18).

Community & Business Partners: Cosco; Partner in Education, Fort Meade; Arundel Lodge; Anne Arundel Community College Service Learning Dept;  Meade High School Internship and Tutor Program; support from other local businesses.

Parental Involvement: Active Parent-Teacher Association and Citizens Advisory Council; classroom and computer lab volunteers.

Special Recognitions:

Jessup Elementary School was selected to represent the state of Maryland on ABC Evening News with Peter Jennings, 1996.

Featured in a state-wide video funded by the U.S. Department of Education - "Best Practices," 1996.

Received a grant from MSDE to fund PDS activities, 1996.

Selected as a site for Education Day 1996 - Leadership Anne Arundel, 1996.

Received state MSPAP Recognition, 1996 and 1997.

Received a citation from Maryland House of Delegates, 1997.

Selected to be a member of the Goals 2000 Project, 1997.

Selected as the host school for a visit by U.S. Treasurer, Mary Withrow, 1997.

Received Governor's Citation for PDS, 1995 and 1998.  

Won first place in 1998 Odyssey of the Mind Regional Competition, 1998.

Selected as a visitation site for national PDS conference, 1998.

Maryland Department of Education recognition for Outstanding Volunteer Service, 1998.

Rosemarie Thompson received Mills-King Human Relations in Education Award, 1999.

Michael Patton received Most Outstanding Educator Award from West Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce, 1999.

Fox Children's Network taped our students for television, 1999.

Won second place in the regional competition for Destination / Imagination, 2000.

Selected as visitation site for Childhood Education International Conference, April 2000.

State wide recognition for improvement on the Maryland State Performance Assessment Program (MSPAP), 2000.

Anne Arundel County Public Schools Exemplary Volunteer Award for PTA Cultural Program 2002.

Linda Lippert - finalist for 2002 Anne Arundel County Teacher of the Year.

Alice Anderson – nominee for Teacher of the Year, 2003 – West County Chamber of Commerce
