Art
Helpers
The Art Teacher needs several volunteers to help decorate the hallways and bulletin boards with children's art work. This help is needed throughout the school year; scheduling is arranged directly with the Art Teacher.
Authors'
Week
This unique program
exposes each class of students to accomplished authors, artists and educators in
the "Literary World." Different
individuals are selected for each grade. Volunteers are needed to plan and
implement this week-long event. Involvement includes assisting with a
"Guest Luncheon" and a book-signing of featured books.
Book
Fair
Volunteers
help children select and purchase books from a large offering of recently
published literature. The Book Fair is held one week in the spring and is a
major PTO fundraiser.
Cultural
Arts
This
committee arranges for a variety of cultural arts and science programs for each
grade level.
Destination
Imagination
School
teams participate in highly-rewarding regional, state, and world-wide
competitions, which emphasize creative thinking and problem-solving skills. An
informational meeting is held in the fall for prospective student-participants
and coaches. Other "DI" involvement could include coordinating
donations for the team(s) and being a judge for the spring competition.
Enrichment Team: Chess Club/Spanish (Anne Marie Wellington), Hands-on-Science (Ken Baird)
Volunteers will assist with distribution of fliers and processing applications for various school-wide enrichment programs such as the Spanish Club and Chess Club.
Gator Golf for Technology
Committee members coordinate and run the fund-raising golf tournament to benefit DES technology growth.
Gator P
Volunteers lead small groups of children in weekly discussions/workgroups (2 to 6 weeks total). No experience with poetry is necessary. This is FUN!
Gator
Walk
This is a school-wide fundraiser held in May. Volunteers are needed to help with serving lunch, water and popsicles to the children.
Gator Wear (Marie Davis)
Volunteers run programs in which they assist with creating, processing and distribution of "Spiritwear" orders for the school.
Gift
Wrap Sale
This is a large all-school fundraiser. Volunteers will help with publicity, processing orders and distribution of orders.
Green School Club/Outdoor Education
Committee volunteers will ensure that Green School status is maintained. Involves organizing group projects and workdays throughout the year.
Gifted and Talented Liason (Sarah Lock)
This program is in conjunction with the SGA. Volunteers are needed to help the SGA collect and weigh food donations from each class. Volunteers will also help publicize the school's efforts to collect food on behalf of the "Kids Helping Kids" program.
Holiday
Shoppe
A "Secret Santa" shop where children can shop for holiday gifts. Volunteers are needed to set-up, provide baked goods, and help the children shop, wrap and clean up.
Hospitality/Teachers’
Luncheons
Volunteers are asked to provide a buffet-type luncheon item to serve approximately 12 people. Volunteers are usually asked to provide food items 1-2 times a year.
Lamination
Volunteers are needed occasionally to drive to the Board of Ed's Crofton facility and laminate materials for the teachers.
Media
Helpers
Volunteers
are needed to assist the Media Specialist throughout the year with book
checkout, the re-shelving of library books, arranging displays, and minor book
repairs. No prior library skills are required. Volunteers are needed in both the
morning and afternoon; scheduling is arranged directly with the Media
Specialist.
Membership
Committee
Volunteers
are needed to assist the Membership Chairperson with the PTO membership drive
and "Back-to-School" Night in the fall.
Music Librarians: Band (Open), Strings (Joy Whitehead)
Volunteers assist the Band and Strings teachers during the school year with Winter and Spring concerts.
New
Family Contact
Volunteers will introduce new families to the school and will be available to answer any questions.
This is a new school-wide fundraiser. Volunteers are needed to assist the Art Teacher with transferring student's artwork on to note cards, processing orders and distribution of orders.
PE Activities (Maureen Carter, Carole Ann Strange)
Volunteers will assist the PE Teacher during events such as: Golden Shoe, Jump for Heart, Superfit and Field Day.
Picture
People
Yearly professional school photos are taken. Volunteers are needed to help sit up children and escort them to and from their classrooms.
Quick Reads (Melissa Hildebrand)
Volunteers assist the Reading Specialist in grades 2-5 with small groups to boost students reading fluency and comprehension during workshop time.
Reading Incentive Program "RIP" (Kathy Taylor)
Volunteers will assist the Reading Specialist with the "Book It" program.
Rebates Program
The
school receives valuable equipment, software, and computers based on the
school-wide receipt total. In the past, this total came from tallying up
qualifying register receipts from Giant, Safeway, and Metro. This year, Giant
and Safeway are accumulated electronically - but only if the customer signs up
for their totals to go toward their school. For Giant receipts please sign up at

Improvement Team
Parents,
teachers and administrators meet once a month and discuss improvements for the
school community.
Science
Fair
Volunteers are needed to set-up, log in projects, tally scores and clean-up. Evening and morning help is needed for 1-2 hours.
School
Historian/Publicity
Responsibilities
include collecting photos, mementos, newspaper reports, etc. and compiling a
history of each school year. They will also write publicity stories when needed
and contact the press for events at the school.

Newspaper
Assist students with publishing the school newspaper, "Gator News." Volunteers are needed to input material and are coordinated through the Reading Specialist.
School
Play Coordinator
Volunteers will assist the Play Coordinator with the construction of props, costumes and practice coordination.
School
Store
Volunteers are needed to staff the store. The store is open 2-3 mornings/week for approximately 1/2 hour prior to the start of the school day.
Social
Volunteers will plan and organize 1-2 "FUN" events for the students and their families.
Special Ed Liaison
Volunteers
attend meetings and gather information to share with interested parents at Davidsonville
Elementary School. They are also a resource for the questions about special
education and the gifted and talented programs.
Teacher
and Staff Appreciation
Week-long events held in the spring to honor all faculty and staff. Volunteers are needed to help with planning and execution of activities.
Teacher
of the Year
Volunteers are needed to assist with paperwork and documentation of the teacher's qualifications. One or more volunteers from each grade level are needed.
Technology (Ann-Marie Wellington)
Touch Pebbles (Barbara McLendon)
A before school reading enrichment program for students in grades 2-5. Volunteers will lead weekly discussion groups. Requires attending training session. Two 6-8 week sessions.

Coordination
The
coordinator oversees all of the volunteer activities for Davidsonville
Elementary School PTO. Responsibilities include monitoring all volunteers in the
classrooms, school wide, and keeping track of all hours spent on volunteer
activities.
Yearbook
This
committee oversees the school's yearbook development and tracks the news of the
school. Volunteers are needed to
take candid pictures throughout the year and to help with yearbook layout and
production. The committee will meet regularly at the school to work on the
yearbook.
