Overview of Elementary Programs  

The gifted and talented program in the elementary school takes place in the regular classroom and radiates from the existing curriculum.  Some part of it affects all students.  Other components are differentiated to provide  special opportunities for identified children.  

K-1 Program to Identify and Develop Advanced Capabilities 
  • Teachers use special lessons over the course of the school year to observe for advanced capabilities in kindergarten and first grade students.

Enrichment Prototypes in Grades 2 - 5

  • Teacher uses established curriculum to provide specialized introductory lessons for all students. 
  • Students participate in differentiated lessons.  These include individual and group training activities which promote critical and creative thinking, and enhance problem-solving skills. 
  • Selected students, through in-depth study, create an original product and present their results to an interested, authentic audience. 
  • Differentiated Instruction in Grades K-5
  • Teacher matches instruction and assessment to individual student needs and interests. 
  • Teacher uses a variety of instructional techniques and resources to challenge students. 
  • Teacher pacing of the curriculum matches the student's ability in a given subject.
